The optical
microscopy facility is used both to teach microscopy
and fractography and to support undergraduate and
graduate research. For teaching, all eighteen stations
are equipped with both a polarizing and a stereographic
microscope; a digital projector displays prepared
slides and images and “live” images from optical
microscopes. For research, a color digital camera
produces high-resolution images, and software is
available for processing these images and for automatic
or semi-automatic image analysis.
