AU News Image Once a ceramic engineer, Alfred University alumna Neslihan Jevremovic now runs Woven Legends and The Anka Cooperative for Syrian refugees

Neslihan Jevremovic graduated from Alfred University in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in ceramic engineering, and she worked for more than five years as an engineer after graduating, both in her native Turkey and in the United States.

These days, however, she is making her mark in business and in international humanitarian service as an expert and entrepreneur in the ancient craft and art of rug weaving.

AU News Image Alfred University Alum Shaminda Amarakoon Named Production, Technical Design Director at Yale

When Shaminda Amarakoon enrolled in Alfred University in 2001, he was, in his own words, “heading south.”            A graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School, the son of Alfred University Ceramic Engineering Professor Vasantha Amarakoon and Savithri Amarakoon, who taught piano in the Alfred area, Shaminda had started his college career at Duke University, studying biomedical engineering. His heart wasn’t in it.
