A Firm Foundation
The MSE program at Alfred University, like our world-renowned programs in ceramics and glass, provides an excellent foundation for a career in a wide variety of fields. Students majoring in mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, or math will find this to be an ideal minor.

This broad interdisciplinary field uses the principles of chemistry, physics, engineering, and biology to develop improved materials that are critical to nearly every modern technology, including electronics, transportation systems, and medical devices, as well as energy and environmental solutions. With an increased focus on nanotechnology, the field is advancing rapidly and will be at the heart of new technologies that we haven't even envisioned.

Hands-on Experience
Small class sizes and individual attention from a dedicated faculty in both classroom and laboratory provide students with an ideal setting in which to hone their computing and problem-solving skills. Research in the School of Engineering is conducted with state-of-the-art equipment housed in over 40,000 square feet of laboratory space. We pride ourselves on not only offering the best facilities in the field, but also in the incredible access that our students have to them.

Our Graduates
Alfred University students are employed by notable companies and organizations as engineers, researchers, and technologists and many of our graduates attend prestigious graduate schools. No matter what they may choose to do after graduation, students who have experience in Alfred University's engineering programs are well-rounded individuals who understand both the principles and practice of their selected field of study.
