Undergraduate Research
Inquire
and Create!
All of our engineering programs require
students to complete a research or design project
during their senior year. Whether it is basic science
or product design, these projects encourage you
to exercise your judgment, hone your communication
skills, and express your creativity.
Build a team!
Many professional organizations sponsor
design contests where you can compete with other
students groups from across the nation. Each year,
NASA encourages undergraduate students to compete
for an opportunity to conduct experiments in zero-gravity
conditions.
Gain experience and earn money!
Most of the professors
in the School of Engineering engage in scholarly
research and welcome the assistance of undergraduate
students. Projects sponsored by industry and government
agencies lead to on-campus job opportunities for
undergraduates during the school year and in the
summer.
Share
your work - locally and globally!
All students
are invited to apply to the Alfred Research Grants for Undergraduate Students (ARGUS) program and to participate in Alfred University's
Annual Undergraduate Research Forum. Many professional
organizations host speaking contests and poster
sessions at regional, national, and international
conferences. Undergraduate researchers are encouraged
to co-author papers with their advisors in journals
with world-wide circulation.
